Finally, and after a little break (nothing happened, I was just really tired, and as soon as I arrived from work, I went to sleep for the last two weeks), we are back with more of Kat’s cute antics.

Since there are 3 episodes here (episode 6 has been up for a while, but I didn’t make a post about it), I have a few things to talk about, translation wise. So let’s get to it.

Episode 6

  • Braims/Brahms: So there’s a little mistake in this episode. The grave by the tree shows clearly the name Braims. The grandma’s photo shows clearly the name Brahms. Both can’t be right. Since the grave appears longer in the episode and is more noticeable, I decided to go with Braims, although I feel Brahms sounds better.
  • The Lullaby: I tried to translate it (if you check the .ass files, you can probably see a few timed lines), but there’s too much background noise and echo.
  • Tartathan: Ok, this was a mistake of mine. It’s tarte tatin, as pointed by jorgelotr. I should have trusted wikipedia on this one.

Episode 7

  • そうこう解決 (Soukou Kaiketsu): This basically means successful resolution, or satisfactory result. It’s Ratman’s catchphrase, although Noah/Ernest uses it to refer to Kat’s resolution. The official translation for this, according to a quick search on youtube, was something along the lines “Ratman brings you doom”… I decided not to use this.

Episode 8

  • Hermet: The Hermet safe is originally called Haireen (ハイレーン), that sounds a lot like a short version of “Can’t get inside”. Hermet is the official translation, but I used it for the honorifics version since otherwise the meaning wouldn’t be conveyed. I also think it’s a good localization.

Now, on another note, it looks like Saizen has decided to pick this up too. They are going for a more localized translation, closer to how the game feels (I only change the names in the second track, while they change speak patterns and everything that was changed during the official localization), so if you are interested in that, be sure to check them out (obviously, since this takes a lot of effort, I’m probably gonna keep ahead of them. They have a proper team and a process, while I make up things as I go).

But that’s not all. There are more news. They are relaunching the oiriginal Layton game on phone, and Kat’s game for Switch (I guess I can buy it again). The Switch one will even have some kind of interaction with some girly “toys” (they are actually accessories, but I guess they are nice, I wouldn’t mind buying some) they are releasing (link). There’s no news about BDs/DVDs, and the manga page sends you to Ciao-land’s main webpage, so I’ll keep an eye on those.

And now, some unrelated news. Yume Nikki: Dream Diary has a new version, and is on sale! This new update looks really good (haven’t been able to play yet), and it really feels like they are listening to feedback. If they keep updating the game, we may end with something really nice there. I’ll leave here a link to the video of the update.

Let’s get things moving again… again.

Ok, ok. I’m sorry for waiting so long before doing this, but my life has been a mess lately, and at some point I just stopped doing anything at all. I think it’s enough to say that I’ve had this release finished for over a month, and I just couldn’t get myself to write this…

But In any case, I’m gonna try to stop being a lazy fuck, and get things going again, even if it needs to be 3 AM in the morning for me to do things.

So, yeah, I’ve subbed the Milky Holmes New Year Special a month ago… Wait, it’s been 2 months already. Where does time go? Anyway, sorry for taking so long to post it.

So, first of all, some translation notes, because some things got a little messy, like usual.

年貢の納め時 (Nengu no Osomedoki): Literally, this phrase means “It’s time to pay your annual taxes”, but it’s actually an idiom that goes more along the lines of reap what you sow, or to pay what it’s due. The reason why I went with the more literal translation is because it’s a new year special, and they were clearly referencing that.

Mastododon: Just in case this is needed: Mastodon

電人Ｍ (Denjin M): Denjin literally means electric person… So, a robot. But Robot M didn’t sound right. The M has a few… possible meanings. I’ll leave it to your imagination.

Minato Mirararai: Clearly referring to Minato Mirai.

Cordelia’s song: You can probably pause at the exact frame where I gave up. I spent the longest time on it, and in the end, I couldn’t make up half of the words anyway. Anyone that can figure it out is welcome to tell me so I can correct it.

I think that covers most things.

As for the previous year’s Christmas Special, MerryChristmas released it, and so did NoFunLoli before them.

As you probably know, there have been some Yume Nikki related news. I will leave the Light Novel fully translated here, but just for a few weeks. After that, ask your local goddess:

The reason why I’m deleting it in a few weeks is that J-Novel Club licensed it digitally, and you should support official releases and all that:

A new Yume Nikki game came out, there’s a new phone novel (spoiler alert: it’s not good, but I like the designs), and basically everything went crazy for a while when Kikiyama updated the webpage slightly to show he (?) was alive and well.

And finally, but not least, Umaru-chan’S was finished by Chao Mian Scanlations just while I was working on it again… Well, I should have been faster. I will probably finish what I’m working on anyway.

And of course, there’s the death of Batoto and nyaa, so most of my links don’t work anymore. I’ll try to replace them slowly this week.

 

That’s it for today. I have an ongoing manga project that I’m working currently on, but I want it to be a surprise, and depending on how things go, I may pick a new anime this season if no one picks it up (one with detectives solving mysteries, just like Milky Holmes…).

Yume Nikki – I’m not in your Dream – You

Well, it’s been a long way here, but I’m finally done (I should have finished this ages ago though). Maybe some of you noticed, but two days ago, I uploaded to bakatsuki the whole first part of the Yume Nikki LN. I’ve been working on this since January, but taking up Milky Holmes took up a lot of my time. I don’t regret it, though.

With this, there’s available up to chapter 16 thanks to Puding321, that has been translating on his own part 2. That makes it more than half the novel. Since I’ll start working on part 3 now while he goes on with 2, I’ll be posting here about his updates too, just so you don’t miss them.

Also, I asked the staff if the LN could be raised to official status, since it’s a one shot, and they’ve granted it. Yay!

On other news, if you’re wondering about Milky Holmes’ last episodes, they should be out soon. I contacted lae last week, and he told me that, while he has finished moving in, he’s been quite busy with work and other issues, but that he’ll try to have them finished this weekend. Meanwhile, I’ve been looking for the insert songs CD to finish translating them for the BD, but haven’t found it. I guess I’ll have to try harder.

Things keep coming!

Falling to your own trapsNo, I haven’t forgotten about “The dream Madotsuki saw”. It’s just that, like me, someone has been out of the loop for quite a while, and until a few days ago, there wasn’t any new page to translate. Just a few days ago, Rizu released five pages, and said that, with this, the first half of the story is done (which is surprising, since I would bet we’re closer to the end, but it looks like he has some ideas left). According to him, he plans on making at least two releases each month this year. Let’s see if he’s able to keep up with that, and if I’m able to follow him with this, and my other projects.

And now, something… unexpected, to say the least. In my last post, after talking about Leviathan, I mentioned that I had to check the new Milky Holmes… Somehow, no one was subbing it, though. After some anon took the spanish subs and retranslated them, and another one timed them, I decided to take them again and fix them to the best of my abilities, retranslating the wrong or inaccurate lines, adding the missing ones, doing the OP and ED (in a really liberal way)… and I thought about making the two insert songs too, but it would take too long. So after a rough upload yesterday at 3 AM, I ran a spellcheck today and fixed a few things, and reuploaded it. So in case anyone is interested:

It says [Leopard-Raws], but I tried Ohys (better video quality, but unfinished opening), and the timing works almost flawlessly (or at least, as flawlessly as in Leopard’s). Matching the offset to any other raws shouldn’t be that hard either.

This doesn’t mean I’ll do them week after week or anything. It’s just that I was kinda pissed off that no one bothered to do a proper work with this, and decided to get into it myself on a whim… that doesn’t mean I won’t do any more either though…

Yume Nikki – Chapter 9.2: Entertainer (last chapter)

The end of the dream

And the dream is over.

Finally, we have a release on date (as if I were one to talk). And after a total of 194 pages, the Yume Nikki manga is over.

I would like to start by saying that I really enjoyed this manga. Sure, it was not what I expected, it was rushed (probably axed due to popularity problems), and it had some messy exposition (well, I actually think this last point was a good one that made it more enjoyable)… but it brought us a new point of view that as far as I know, no one ever thought of (just like the light novel… that I haven’t translated yet). So, it was original, the art was great, and as I said, I really enjoyed the storytelling, even if it was messy. So, I’m glad this manga got published, I’m glad it was done by the people it was done by, and I’m glad I decided to translate it.

The dream Madotsuki saw

If it was connected by a door...

As I just said, I worked on three new things. The second one is this other doujin by Rizu. This one is about Madotsuki in Ib’s world. It’s still incomplete, and Rizu publishes a few pages each month. I’ll be updating the file in mediafire and the gallery in exHentai every time he publishes something.

As the previous one, it’s uploaded to exHentai instead of Batoto, so be sure you know how to enter before trying, or you’ll end with a sad panda.

So, yeah, I havent worked on any of my old projects… but I have on some other things (3, to be more precise). The first one is a short and old Yume Nikki doujin by Yatsuki that chipp12 requested in his comment. It’s only 6 pages long, but it’s nice and quite well done.

Unlike other releases, I won’t be uploading this to batoto, but to exHentai (don’t worry, it’s non-H). If you have problems reading it online (you see a sad panda and nothing happens), I recommend that you either use your google skills or that you simply download it. Explaining how to enter exHentai would be too long, and there are plenty of guides out there.

Yume Nikki – Chapter 9: Entertainer

So, once again, I’m here to deliver a new chapter of the Yume Nikki manga… and I haven’t done anything about my other projects…

As you can see, nothing ends this chapter. That’s because they decided to divide the chapter in two parts. The second one should come out on March’s 13. Like last time, I’ll save my comments for the last release.

Yume Nikki – Chapter 8: Give and take

Big news. First of all, here you have chapter 8 of Yume Nikki.

Second, and more importantly: next chapter comes out on the 20th of next month… and it’ll be the last. So, yeah, the whole manga will only be nine chapters long. Enough to fill a tankoubon… but there hasn’t been any announcement about a release. I guess we’ll know something next month.

I wish I had a comment to accompany this, but I was never good with those things (as you could see in my previous releases), so I’ll save anything that I may think for the next and last chapter. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Edit: Well, like every month… the schedule has changed. First of all, chapter nine will be divided in two parts (chapter 9 part one, and chapter 9 part 2… shocking, right?). Second, first part was not released today as it was supposed to be, and will be released next week (on 27th). As always, the announcement of this change was done just the day before the expected release (that is, yesterday). Finally, the second part will be released (unless they change that too) on March 13th.

Yume Nikki – Chapter 7: Mood Change

 

I guess everyone noticed, but chapter 7 was postponed. It was released yesterday, 2nd of January. Also, all chapters from now on will be released 0on the fourth Thursday of each month… Does this include January? I don’t know, but probably

About this chapter… well, it was quite revealing. You’ll see that it has some interesting information about what’s going on, while leaving you with even more questions, and a faint promise of some more answers in next chapters… time will tell though.

Anyway, I hope you like it… and let’s see if I can focus a little and actually release something else in the next week.

Edit: It’s confirmed that the next chapter comes out on the 23rd of this month.

Edit2: According to a tweet of Yume Nikki Project, the author of the manga (doesn’t specify, but probably Tomizawa) fell ill (probably just a cold, and certainly nothing to worry about). So today’s chapter was postponed. New release date is next week (30th), so fortunately the wait won’t be too long.
